In 2007 Etelä-Savo Taidetoimikunta (Arts Council), Mikkeli Kaupunki (city) and art centre Saksala ArtRadius have been starting a pilot project art education (OpeArtEdu) with (art) teacher of different schools in Mikkeli.
Participating schools in OpeArtEdu are:
Rantakylä Koulu - Rantakylä School
Moision Koulu - Moisio School
Sairilan Koulu - Sairila School

The intention of the OpeArtEdu project is to develop the art education curriculum in the school and the professional skills of the (art) teachers.
A group of teachers is participating in the OpeArtEdu project and they will present their experiences during VESO meetings of the art education symposium NATURALLY ART - LUONNOLLISESTI TAIDE in September 2008.

The OpeArtEdu project meetings are practical and by working in art lessons the teachers are reflecting on their own work, the art lessons in the class and the meaning of art education in the development of a child. Discussions about the value, the method, the materials and the presentation are basic elements of the content.

In the second part of the OpeArtEdu project Riitta Moisander and Marja de Jong were doing workshops in different classes of the schools. In some of these workshops artists who staying in art centre Saksala ArtRadius were participating.

At the end of the first year an exhibition is planned and will be presented in the AllaprimA MuseuM of Saksala ArtRadius. The exhibition SILMÄT AUKI - OPEN EYES shows the results of the workshops and of the regular art lessons in the different schools. The planning is to show the exhibition on different other places.

 

Introduction of the OpeArtEdu project to the group of principals of Mikkeli Schools and Seija Manninen of the education department Mikkelin Kaupunki. After this meeting three schools have been started in the OpeArtEdu project. RANTAKYLÄN KOULU MOISION KOULU SAIRILAN KOULU
