As practice based researcher I attempt to create situations where
the viewer can make certain realisations through the experience of my
work. My practice is mostly concerned with alternative ways of living
and thinking through ideas where the constructed nature of the Self
plays an evident role.
When I arrived at Saksala ArtRadius I became aware of the absence of the
immediate audience that so often forms part of my methodology. I started
to investigate the continuous dialogue I had with myself and attempted
to make a project that deals with this personal aspect of the Self in a
more open and honest way. The landscape itself seemed to be ideal to use
as a platform for creating a sense of presence through altering the
space in subtle ways by only using the snow that already forms part of
the space.nce of the work, visually, physically or conceptually.

Through the work I am (translated from Afrikaans to English) I admit
the vulnerability of the Self through using the scale of the work and
the specific choice of words. The work can be experienced on a physical
and visual level because of the specific location and the chosen scale
of the work. The words suggests a presence of a person, who ever may be
interpellated by the work, but it also signifies an open ended concept
as it acts as an incomplete sentence. The viewer can either admit to the
existence of the Self through only reading the words, or can engage in
the work by making up new meanings as the sentence can be completed
through adding any word next to it.
I finally see this work as a gesture to that enables the viewer to come
to realisation through the experience of the work, visually, physically or conceptually.
