THIS IS OUR NATURE
PROJECT PLAN ART AND ART EDUCATION IN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE
Art centre Saksala ArtRadius is executing a project plan for artists in the
artist-in-residence program and the local schools of Haukivuori.
The population of Haukivuori has a higher number of foreigners as the average of
Finland. It is 4% and Finnish average is 2%. This makes the community in this
rural region remarkable.
In the international art center artists from different countries are staying and
working on their projects.
As part of their contribution to this community the international artists are
planning to cooperate with the school (elementary school and secondary school).
Their ideas are based on their qualities and expertise.
The
exhibition SUOMEN MAISEMA by the Dutch painter Ilse van den Berk
in art
centre Saksala ArtRadius will be used as source of information, reference and
inspiration. Through the intensive observation by the artist children can
undergo that persons from different regions see the daily environment in a place
like Haukivuori in a complete different way, or notice unexpected details. It is
the own everyday perception that builds the own frame of reference.

THIS IS OUR NATURE
The main subject in the project THIS IS OUR NATURE is the way children of
different ages visualize their view on the surroundings and landscape.
During the project artists from different origin will contribute with their
impressions, views and visual remarks which will activate new points of view and
also reflect on the own view.
During art workshops in the school, in art centre Saksala ArtRadius and the
environment of Haukivuori children will work with artists from different
countries in different ways. This can be painting, photography, collage work,
traditional techniques, printing etc. The artists’ expertise is important to get
different directions in the views and in the works. Experiments are part of the
workshops.
This project has also the intention to add extra art education facilities to the
school curriculum.
It will be a pilot to research the components and to plan how this can be
structural embedded in the curriculum.
The project will contribute to the development of the rural area and the self
awareness of young people in isolated rural regions.
The project can be also used on other locations where international artists are
available.
