In earlier artist-in-residencies Ilse van den Berk has walked for hours in
the landscape around the art center and has made thousands of pictures. The
photos are part of her paintings she made during her stay and also afterwards in
her atelier in the Netherlands.
The exhibition is part of the art education project:
THIS IS OUR NATURE
The project is part an international exchange program that will be developed
by Saksala ArtRadius, AREFS taide ja kulttuuri ry, the AllaprimA Foundation and
other organizations in different countries of Europe.

The exhibition she has built up during her stay this time shows a selection of
these photos and they cover the walls completely. During her stay she has started cooperation with the school and social groups in the
village to involve people in this project. Finally every one will be invited to
make photos, poems, texts or something else and create a new wall with the view
on Haukivuori.

Ilse van den Berk. This exhibition is also the beginning of the project
THIS IS OUR NATURE in
which the society of Haukivuori will participate.
Photos and paintings based on the different stays in Haukivuori the
artist has had in the past years.
The book "Suomen Maisema - Finnish Landscape" is the result of
intensive observation of the rural landscape of Haukivuori.
It shows how the artist visualizes the impressions of the countless
times she has walked through the forests, fields and along the brooks
and lakes.
And as Lucien den Arend wrote in the same book: "Away from the highways,
and in our case far from the dirt road, one hears the wind in the trees,
the birds and insects."
This is part of the quality of the landscape and its nature and the
treasure of people born and living in this region.
