Art centre Saksala ArtRadius has the intention to create a place where it is possible to start experimental activities in different fields of art.
For 2007 a program is planned to explore the human voice with intensive vocal workshops and master classes. In small groups people can take part in these special workshops.

The program has different parts to develop the knowledge, use and expression of the own voice:
1. Experiences of the own voice. Listen to the way the voice is expressing the person with practical experiences to give the opportunity to listen critical to the own sound. Explore the own instrument (voice) in different ways. Theoretical knowledge of the own body as an instrument to make sound.

2. Different expressions in different cultural circumstances. Listen to different music experiences from different parts of the history and practice vocal music from the past and now; at the end expresses by a recital.

3. Theoretical knowledge of the own body as an instrument to make sound. The art of singing is not only a sound but also an expressive and telling phenomenon. All these elements give participants a more professional control over the own vocal expression ending in a performance for a small or bigger audience.

The master singer Marjan Booy is an expert in this field and will start with the first experiences in 2007. It is the intention to continue in the following years with developing the program.

As a singing master Marjan Booy has a special way to develop the human voice.
Her experiences in the field of music are based on the combination of professional mastery and practical experiences in the field of kindergarten education and nursing.

Her method is based on the view to enjoy the human voice and give every one the pleasure to sing and listen.
In the project ART ENLARGES THE AREA we are looking for a way to involve children, youngsters and adults to art.
Playing music, listening music, enjoying traditional, new and experimental music and instruments is a part of this project. (part of art education)
In Finland there is a high level of music tradition and it is interesting to investigate how to use this interest in music with the human voice.

The Dutch singer Marjan Booy can give new experiences to young people and choirs in the way she teach.
During her stay in Saksala ArtRadius we discussed about the combination of organ concerts with songs and also to create special workshops for young people to enjoy, sing, discover and explore the music of different times, from the past until today.

With the Finnish music schools a program can start to work together and share the expertise of Marjan Booy.
The basic idea of the concerts and the master classes are: - show the pleasure to sing and listen to music of different times
 - give singers, solo and choirs an interesting experience in using the own voice
- give youngsters a view on the possibility to sing and use the music in a personal way
- development of (young) singers
- create a tradition of singing workshops by different singing masters during summer time for local people, (music) tourists and summer guests

With the organ concerts the organ music of different composers (also Finnish composers) can be execute by different organ players, who have all their own touch and sound. All together the organ, organ music and organ players can give the public an interesting music experience.

During winter and spring a week program will be compiled.

3. contact with music schools
During school period music schools have to be interested in the singing workshops and especially for the students of these schools workshops can be arranged.
These workshops can create a possibility to sing together in a festival execute period.

During summer 2007 Marjan Booy will be stay for at least 3 weeks to execute the different parts of the program. The workshops take a lot of energy to be fresh and clear for every day. A special program has to be creating for the music school classes. During winter a consultation of the music teachers will give an idea of the level of and interesting program parts for the students

Coming month the plans will be developed to see what is possible and what kind of new elements are available.
It depends on the budget what can be realized, stipendiums will be applied.

Al van zeer jonge leeftijd heeft het fenomeen van de stem mijn belangstelling gehad. Het heeft me altijd geintrigeerd dat, vaak onbewust, onze stem ons tot troost en gezelschap is.

Ik heb het altijd als heerlijk ervaren m'n stem door me te voelen stromen, in de mond te kneden en te boetseren tot klank en aan te laten komen in het oor en (nog liever !) in het hart van geadresseerde. Soms was ik dat zelf , soms iemand bij mij en de laatste jaren zijn dat ook diegenen voor wie op CD boeken en verhalen ingelezen worden.

Het verhalen vertellen aan zeer jonge kinderen in de tijd dat ik in het onderwijs werkzaam was-het gedwongen zoeken naar een zo expresief mogelijk stemgebruik omdat veel van die kinderen de gesproken taal niet machtig waren-het communiceren waarbij de klank vele malen belangrijker was dan de inhoud van het gesprokene, in het werk met geestelijk gehandicapten...  die dingen hebben zeker zo veel bijgedragen aan de vorming en scholing van mijn stem als de latere studie SoloZang aan het conservatorium.
Workshops bij experimenteel stemkunstenares Meredith Monk en kenners van de zeer oude muziek zoals Rebeca Stewart en Paul Hilliard hebben mij verder bevestigd in mijn voorkeur voor dat deel van de stem waarmeemeer te kennen gegeven wordt dan virtuoos en technisch  perfect stemgebruik. Ook mijn leraar Bernard Kruyssen, groot vertolker van het franse lied, is voor mij een gewaardeerd voorbeeld geweest.
Het zonder voorbehoud gebruik kunnen maken van m'n eigen stem, om  het even op welke manier en met welk doel voor ogen, is voor mij een van de grotere geschenken in het leven...

The workshop has been a part of the art education symposium NATURALLY ART (9-12 July 2007)
In this symposium her contribution is important because of her personal view on music, sound and art education. A part of the program has been executed during a workshop and will be integrated in the follow up from this symposium.

During the organ concerts by the organ player Henk de Croon the mezzo soprano Marjan Booij will sing different songs. The concerts are in Juva (July 18), Haukivuori (July 22) and Mikkeli (July 25).
