Riitta Moisander is Secretary-General of the regional Art Council in
Mikkeli - Etelä-Savon Taidetoimikunta -
She has been art teacher and director of the art education
department of the Savonlinna Campus of the University of Joensuu. She wrote
different books about art and art education and is very interested in the
development of the content of the art curriculum in primary and secondary
schools.

The visual language of human beings is related to the
culture and time they live in and has to be a natural part of the basic
education of children.
The lecture gave information about the way the visual language of
civilization has changed during ages and how the visual language of children
is developing. The view on reality is changing by the knowledge, interest,
reference, context and personality of the person.
It is important to offer children the possibility to find different ways to
express themselves in the art process. There are many ways to find solutions
and an art process has to have the challenge to find new and unexpected
changes to express the personal relation with reality.
