In the AllaprimA museum of art centre Saksala ArtRadius in Haukivuori a part of the remarkable collection children’s drawings and paintings of the AllaprimA Foundation Holland will be shown during autumn and winter 2005/2006.

This collection contains the artistic works of more than 400 children, they have had art courses in the AllaprimA Art School in the Netherlands -an institute where children had worked over 30 years-. Many children have had art classes during a long time, sometimes 10 years or more, they started very young, the age of 3 years was not exceptional.

The collection represents a way of working which is based on artistic principles. The artist Marja de Jong was the creative force of the Art School and during more than 25 years she was also in the position to develop her ideas in a teacher’s training college in Rotterdam. She builds up an authority in an artistic way of working with children.

With several exhibitions in Europe the collections has been presented, used and discussed to develop a fundamental way of working with and by art. Workshops, lectures and symposiums go hand in hand with these presentations. (INSEA congress, de Doelen Rotterdam, the Netherlands 1981; St Pieters Abdij, Gent , Belgium 1983; Municipal House, Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands 1986; Kunsthal Rotterdam, the Netherlands 2001; University de Minho, Braga, Portugal 2002; Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Hague, the Netherlands 2003 and several other small and big exhibitions during more than 30 years)

Marja de Jong has also cooperate in the school television program ‘kijk, als je tekent zie je meer’ (look, if you draw you see more) from Dutch Education Television, parts of this series has also been on television in Finland. She also cooperates in the art method ‘uit de kunst’ meant for the primary school. This method is a big success in the Netherlands; many schools are using it now a day.

During the exhibition in the KUNSTHAL in Rotterdam (2001) the book ‘children’s drawings, a story of images’ is published. This books shows in many images a successful way of art education and the way children can develop in an artistic way when their artistic possibilities. Very interesting is the part where the developments of many children are shown.

The exhibition in the AllaprimA museum of Saksala ArtRadius shows by many paintings an inspiring way of working with (young) children. The lectures, workshops and symposiums in autumn and winter will give more information and practical suggestions about the vision and the background.

The collection (about 10 000 paintings and drawings from children from 2 – 18 years old) shall be archived and open for research. Interested people can use the collection for study, work for one's Ph D, conduct scientific research etc.

We hope to see you soon in the art centre and the museum
