My most recent body of work was motivated by a residency in the coastal town
of Abroath in Scotland in late 2008. This experience has informed my art
practice, inspiring sculptures that are influenced by explorer’s equipment,
depicting themes of distance, trajectories, orientation and disorientation and
drawing connections between geographical and emotional journeys.
More recently I have become interested in challenging myself in a country that
is even further removed from my home in Australia. I am particularly motivated
to confront a more extreme climate, which is my reason for being attracted to
the snow-covered landscapes of Finland in winter.

Snow will form the basis for my upcoming body of work. I anticipate the
experience of living in a country where snow is commonplace. I am intrigued by
the ephemeral quality of snow, its ability to coat and accumulate on objects,
disguising and revealing them as it settles and melts. I intend to investigate
the bodily experience of snow; looking through snow falling, moving through
settled snow and living surrounded by snow.
I propose a body of work that depicts the fragility of memory, where snow serves
as a metaphor for the unpredictability of memories. I will be producing a
collection of white sculptures that merge with, and emerge from, the white walls
of a gallery space.
