A residence period is very inspiring when it is possible to do experiments and see new elements in the works.

    After three months

This winter I stayed for 3 months in Saksala ArtRadius (Haukivuori, Finland) as an artist-in-residence.
For the residence period, I was looking for a place with a big connection to the environment (as well people as nature). The way how people deals with nature was very important for me. A place in a rural area was important, because in a crowded area there is less connection between the way of living and nature.

During my stay, the rural area proves to be the place where I could work intensively. The nature became important as a starting point for inspiration. The long walks that I made everyday freed my mind of ‘normal’ business and gave a lot of space for creativeness. Because of this, I felt space to experiment in different fields. So I found a way to prepare myself as a way to became in a flow. With this information I can change my tracks in my own workspace. Because of the experiments that I did, the pleasure of painting was coming back and developed itself to a high level. With every painting I surprised myself, so my development was also very exciting for myself. Without this stay, I couldn’t develop as I did now. During my study, I lost the feeling of the importantness of the experiment.

In the Art  center I had a room for my own. This was really important, because then you have a place where you can retire. My living room was as a museum. There where lots of things to see and many experiments started here. This place was suffused with my feeling. This seems to be more important then expected. If I had to share my room, my stay wasn’t that successful. In my creative process it is very difficult if someone disturbs my environment.

To find my position in the art world, was one part that I didn’t expected that much. Because of the experiences of the other artists and the developing of my own work, I could find my own position in the world of art. Also with the collaboration with other artists, gives your own development a boost. It takes care for some reflection, which is important in finding your way.

I’m very happy and still exciting with the experiences that I had during my stay. That moment, it was a very good stay on the right place for my. That’s why it is important that artist-in-residence places in the rural area are necessary.
