    • The Australian dancer, choreographer Karen Kerkhoven creates site specific dance-art events on different places in the world.

    SITE SPECIFIC JOURNEY THROUGH DANCE AND ART

    - in co-operation with regional dance and theatre groups, and visual artists
    - for professional dancers, amateurs, children and young people
    ART IN MOTION brings the art to dance and the dance to art in site specific action and will activate young people to cross boundaries.

    AIM OF THE PROJECT
    Dance is for Finnish people already from the past an important way to express and to meet others. Traditional dancing in summer is everywhere. Through this EVENT –ART IN MOTION young people will in contact with aspects of dance from the other side of the globe and to find a connection with the own dance culture to create new dance form.
    The aim of the project is to study, research and create with young people new forms in cross-art and dance practicing on different levels in site specific context of Saksalanharju.
    Purpose of the event is to explore, to experience, to discuss and to deepen the regional Finnish dance culture and expression, and to exchange with foreign dance cultures. Through cross-art and dance start to find new forms in traditional and contemporary dance and art.

    STARTING POINT
    Discussion and showings of video and works that have been created in Spain in residencies and also by participants that are cutting edge or cross art form to connect and to know what has already be achieved and to find a starting point through looking at each others work the creators artists and dancers taking part in the Art in Motion project in Finland.

    NEW TERRITORY
    What has been created from the process of searching and playing with the concept and space between the concept and the art makers, dancers and creators at the space of Saksala Art Radius Finland.

    A dance performance of Karen Kerkhoven in her residency in Australia on Sunday morning February 28 2010 at 6.45 AM local time in Finland. The performance was in real time by SKYPE registered by a web camera.

    The performance is a painting in the Australian landscape and the distance to the camera influences the magic of the movements of the dancer and the transparent fabric.

    We hope to realize more of this inspiring landscape coloring in the Finnish landscape around art centre Saksala ArtRadius. In July 2010 we are planning the first DANCE-ART event in art centre Saksala ArtRadius with the Australian dancer, choreographer Karen Kerkhoven.
