Provincetown is the country's oldest continuous arts colony. The
founders envisioned a place where young artists and writers could live and work together in the early phase of their careers.
It was their vision that the freedom to pursue creative work within a community of peers was the best catalyst for artistic growth.
Artists and writers are invited for the seven-month period of October 1 to May 1, the selected painters, sculptors, installation artists, photographers, fiction writers and poets leave behind routine distraction and obligations to work on the tip of Cape Cod in our Fellowship program.
The fellows are expected to move to Provincetown for this 7-month period
in
Fine Arts Work Center.

During the visit of FAWC it was possible to meet the staff and to
discuss about the program, condition, history and vision of this
remarkable artist community.
With the executive director Margaret Murphy there was a meeting
about the way how to co-operate with Saksala ArtRadius. There are
plans for a developing program for Finnish artists to work in
Saksala and also in FAWC.
The winter period in Provincetown is quit and silent and the Work
Center is situated at the tip of Cape Cod in an area of spectacular natural beauty, surrounded by miles of dunes and National Seashore beaches.
It was very interesting to see the work spaces, the artists and the
way they are working. The work center is very active and the fellows
who live together for 7 months are creating every year an artistic
community. The individual studios are spacious and the artists can
work in their own schedule. The positive influence of the Fine Arts Work
Center is an important contribution for the artistic development of
the fellows.
FAWC is a very interesting and attractive artists community with
its own character and philosophy.
